Pacifica Graduate Institute
The Pacifica Graduate Institute started out in 1976 as a Counseling Skills Certificate program that was designed to train students in the skills of psychology and counseling. Through the years, the institute became very popular as a number of universities and colleges from the neighboring Santa Barbara area sent their students to attend this course. Over the years, the institute became known as the Pacifica Graduate Institute as a number of degree programs including masters and doctorate programs were added to the curriculum. The two campuses of the institute are located in close proximity to each other at the foothills of the Santa Barbara suburbs.

The programs at the Pacifica Graduate Institute are centered on the idea of depth psychology. This concept has been derived from the teachings of Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud and focuses on the study of societal symptoms and human behavior in order to develop the most suitable educational programs. The programs offered at the institute use psychology, mythology and humanities in their coursework and methods of dispensing education.

There are a total of six higher education degrees offered at the Pacifica Graduate Institute. The main areas of study at the institute are psychology, mythology and humanities studies. The degrees offered in these fields are M.A. in Counseling Psychology, M.A. in Humanities, Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Ph.D. in Depth Psychology with an emphasis in Psychotherapy, M.A/ Ph.D. in Depth Psychology and M.A/ Ph.D. in Mythological Studies with an emphasis in Depth Psychology.
