Located in Fairfield, Connecticut, Sacred Heart University is one of the largest Catholic Universities in New England. Sacred Heart University, or SHU, as it is also known is among The Princeton Review’s “Best 371 Colleges” and “Best 301 Business Schools”. The university is also recognized as the world leader in Catholic higher education and has received several notable awards for its graduate & undergraduate programs in addition to recognition on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll” consecutively.  Sacred Heart University was founded in 1963 by Most Reverend Walter W. Curtis as a Catholic university that would provide affordable, quality education to the people of Bridgeport.

The strong values and principles set by the founders and teachers have paved the way for success, and the original enrollment of less than 200 has grown to over 6000 students in a relatively short time span. Six new campuses have been opened, including one each in Luxembourg and Ireland. A considerable number of international students, particularly from Africa and Asia are also enrolled at Sacred Heart University. A ‘virtual campus’ with facilities such as an online library, interactive tutorials and video conferencing has also been set up online for students who are unable to attend regular classes. The SHU Athletics department offers 17 different sports for men and 15 sports for women, with regular competitions at a regional level. Students also actively volunteer at a national and international level.

The University comprises of four colleges: Arts & Sciences College; Education & Health Professionals College; University College and the John F. Welch College of business. Over 45 degree programs are offered at various levels. Students can choose from fields such as English, History, Spanish, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work and Sociology. Graduate and undergraduate programs are also offered in Criminal Justice, Communication Studies, Media Studies, Computer Science and Graphic Design. Students enrolled in a business administration program can choose an area of specialization such as finance, accounting, human resource management and management information systems.
